TISHK Seminar SeriesA seminar on ‘From the Kurdish-Kurdistan Question to the Security Subcomlpexes in the Middle East’
The TISHK Center for Kurdistan Studies is pleased to announce its eleventh seminar in the 2025 series, entitled: "From the Kurdish-Kurdistan Question to the Security Subcomlpexes in the Middle East".
The seminar will be presented by Dr. Ramin Mafakheri, a political theorist and Middle East specialist. Dr. Mafakheri holds two PhDs: one in Political Theory from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and a second in Middle Eastern Politics from UCL. His interdisciplinary research focuses on issues of security, state formation, political violence, and regional dynamics in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on Kurdish politics and the complex security environments surrounding the Kurdish question.
Dr. Mafakheri’s work has appeared in several academic journals and edited volumes, addressing themes such as securitization processes, state and non-state actors in conflict zones, and the geopolitical implications of Kurdish movements. His research combines political theory and empirical analysis to shed light on the evolving security subcomplexes that define the political landscape of the Middle East today.
The seminar will be moderated and led by Dr. Fateh Saeidi, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Texas at Austin and a member of the Advisory Board of the TISHK Center for Kurdistan Studies.
Scheduled for Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 6 PM (Berlin time), the seminar will be conducted in Kurdish. The session includes a 10-minute introduction, a 30-minute presentation, a 25-minute Q&A session, and a 10-minute panel discussion and conclusion.
