The TISHK Center for Kurdistan Studies is pleased to announce its twelfth seminar in the 2025 series, entitled: "RojAtlas Project: Establishing a Geographic Database for Eastern Kurdistan".

The seminar will be presented by Mr. Suleyman Chukeli, a researcher and founder of the RojAtlas Project. Originally from Mahabad, Mr. Chukeli received his B.A. in Geography from Tabriz University and completed his M.A. in the same field at the University of Tehran. In 2005, he began his academic career as a lecturer and assistant professor at the universities of Koya and Ranya in Southern Kurdistan. Since 2011, he has been based in Norway, where he pursued studies in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and is currently employed in a governmental office.

Mr. Chukeli’s most significant works include The Ethno-Religious Map of Urmia Province and, more recently, the establishment of the RojAtlas Project. The project represents the first geographic portal devoted to Eastern Kurdistan, designed as a comprehensive and sustainable database to serve as a reliable foundation for research, planning, and long-term development. By addressing fundamental questions such as language, religion, and official place names, the project lays the groundwork for broader geographic exploration and provides an open, trusted resource for scholars, institutions, and policymakers.

The seminar will be moderated and led by Hiwa Tase, PhD Researcher in Sociology at The Graduate Center, City University of New York, and member of the Editorial Board of TISHK Magazine.

Scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 6 PM (Berlin time), the seminar will be conducted in Kurdish. The session includes a 10-minute introduction, a 30-minute presentation, a 25-minute Q&A session, and a 10-minute panel discussion and conclusion.
